Halseyon Days River Cruise - South
Halseyon Days river cruise going south from Leicester marina.
4 Hour Cruise
We leave the Leicester Marina mooring and after a brief time we take a tight turn left and head towards Birstall, this being within the South part of the Watermead Country Park. We go through our first lock at Birstall. We then sail under several bridges, passing the Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre.
We continue towards the city centre passing the Abbey Pumping Station (right) and the towering National Space Centre. We’ll go through Belgrave Lock, very near to where a magnificent Diwali celebration is held each year around Leicester’s famous “Golden Mile”, before arriving at Limekiln Lock. Our turn for home will be made somewhere in this area, river conditions dependent.
5 Hour Cruise
This trip follows the route of the 4-hour trip, but the additional time allows our guests to disembark and explore Abbey Park or to have a picnic.
6 Hour Cruise
This trip follows the route of the 4-hour trip, but the additional time allows us to cruise further into Leicester City, passing the Mattioli (formerly Morningside) Arena - home to The Leicester Riders Basketball team. We’ll then cruise under West Bridge, this being very near to the Old River Soar, where according to the legend, King Richard III’s body was thrown into the water at Bow Bridge. We then cruise alongside Castle Gardens before making our turn for home, river conditions dependent, near to the iron bridge over the Old River Soar at the Rowing Club.
7 Hour Cruise
This trip follows the route of the 6-hour trip. However, there should be sufficient time to have a picnic, perhaps in the Castle Gardens. Equally, there are several places along this “Mile Straight” where refreshments and food can be purchased.
